The National Aquarium is on a Mission
The National Marine Aquarium is certainly a must see attraction in Plymouth. It is situated in Rope Walk, Coxside, Plymouth but can also be accessed by foot via the historic Plymouth Barbican.
Set up as an independent charity they don't receive any external funding and rely on purely the money they make through ticket sales and donations.
The purpose of the National Marine Aquarium is to deliver their mission: Driving Marine Conservation Through Engagement - which aims to protect marine life along with their environment.

Looking over the Plymouth Sound you will be able to take in the abundance of activity on the surface of the water but also The National Marine Aquarium will also show you the incredible wide range of life under the surface as well. There is a vast amount of life that we would not normally see or appreciate without the work done by organisations like this. If you want show your support for the work done in looking after the part of our planet we can’t see, then a visit to the Aquarium would be a very good start.

Most people enjoy a day out at the seaside and this can only give you more scope for enjoyment in the future. Taking the children to the Plymouth National Marine Aquarium will be not only fun and educational but will go towards protecting their environment in the years ahead. The influence on human health of our oceans has grabbed the interest of medical scientists.
There is currently a research programme being worked on by Plymouth University and the National Marine Aquarium exploring the restorative potential of real and "virtual" marine environments. Future studies will determine if living by the sea can improve our wellbeing and physical health. I think we all know the answer to that one!

A novel idea of doing your bit would be to adopt ‘Emily’ the Sand Tiger Shark or even ‘Nemo’ the Clownfish. For less than 10p per day you can help sponsor a particular aquatic creature and be sent the latest information and pictures on how their watery life is progressing along with certificates and a soft toy. You will also be offered a free ticket to visit them – a great present for the children, much better for them than an X-box game.
