TAVISTOCK

Tavistock is the largest town in west Devon just a 20 minute drive north of Plymouth. As you leave Plymouth you enter the Dartmoor National Park passing the Moorland Links golf club, through Yelverton and within 10 minutes you will enter the market town of Tavistock.
The first thing you will probably notice is the statue of their most famous of sons, Sir Francis Drake standing proudly in the middle of a roundabout, probably looking for his house where he was born a few miles south.
The town has a population of about 11,000 and started as a tin-assaying town and later became the agricultural market for the area.
Today apart from the market, Tavistock boasts a, riverside park, leisure centre and theatre and is close to splendid lake fishing. If you are staying in Plymouth then Tavistock is well worth a visit and you get to see a bit of Dartmoor National Park as well.
