Plymouth Sailing School

Add News

Plymouth Sailing School was set up in 1957 and is one of the longest established sea schools in the whole of the UK.

Proud of their reputation for safety conscious fun and professionalism they aim to provide a complete service from the novice through to the Professional Yachtmaster.

A full range of shorebased courses are catered for by their professional and friendly instructors at their own offices located at Yacht Haven Quay.

For the practical  courses  you will stay on board the yacht as part of the course. You will visit various ports and you will be able to explore ashore and sleep on the boat.
If a Channel crossing is involved in your course it may include a night crossing so you will be required to work watches with your crewmates.

Choosing Plymouth Sailing School would be a wise decision in itself and is even more attractive when you consider its location. Plymouth Sound is the ideal location for learning to sail with a unique combination of safe sheltered areas for novices and challenging rough water for advanced courses and bespoke tuition.

Why Choose Plymouth?

Plymouth has a rich sailing history and is the perfect place for anyone who wants to be taught by the best instructors and enjoy the time they have ashore.

If you need accommodation during your course the school will help you find somewhere to stay and, if available, you may even be able to sleep aboard one of their own boats.

If you need somewhere to stay you can take a look at our selection of ActivPlymouth hotels and B&B's along with Plymouth restaurants and pubs and local theatre entertainment.

Chartering boats is another service provided at the Plymouth Sailing School. If you don’t have the necessary experience they can provide a skipper. It makes a fantastic corporate day out and acts as a perfect way to entertain clients. Even as a present for someone, it really is not that expensive when you consider the occasion can be enjoyed by family and friends. You will be pleasantly surprised as to how much everybody enjoys their time in the stress free zone on board.

There is obviously limited space available but sharing the cost between 6 people for a day’s sailing makes it not much more than going out to see a show. If you want more details about courses or chartering then visit their website
