Many sailing schools in Plymouth provide powerboat tuition as a sideline but if you want the very best start in this thrilling sport then you should consider going to a specialised powerboating school.

Plymouth Powerboat School are an RYA motor boat & powerboat training centre dedicated to providing the highest possible standards of tuition, safety and equipment and all at competitive prices.

There you can receive both power boat courses and shorebased courses with their knowledgeable and friendly instructors who are available for training 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year from their base at Queen Anne's Battery Marina in Plymouth.

They cater for the complete novice through to those who have been boating for their entire lives. While the majority of their clients are leisure users, they also specialise in providing training for people who plan to work commercially on the water skippering dive, fishing or other charter boats.

As part of your training you could be using one of their 7m RIBs or a Jeanneau Prestige flybridge boat cruiser. All under 2 years old and maintained to the highest possible standards, these boats provide an excellent combination of comfort, safety and speed. All boats are fitted with the latest electronics including a colour GPS / chart plotter, echo sounder and DSC VHF Radio together with a comprehensive set of safety equipment
In addition to a full range of RYA power boat & motor boat courses they offer courses which include everything from operating VHF radio, First Aid, Basic Navigation and Sea Survival.

There’s also a 1 day course for children aged 8 or over which covers basic boat handling skills and safety afloat.

Even after your RYA course the professional and friendly instructors are always on hand to give support and answer any questions you might have.
Plymouth Sound

Plymouth Sound is the ideal location for powerboat training with a unique combination of safe sheltered areas for novices and challenging rough water for advanced courses and bespoke tuition. In the 5 years that the boat school has been operating, they never had to cancel a course due to the weather.

All instructors are experienced professionals with a passion for the water. Plymouth Power Boat School's Principal is Michael Whelan. He is a fully qualified RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor, Motor Cruising Instructor, Senior Sailing Instructor, Day Skipper & Yachtmaster Shorebased Instructor, PWC Instructor, VHF Radio Assessor, FirstAid Instructor & Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Power & Sail. Michael has a wealth of boating experience including running a sailing school in Ireland and over 10,000 teaching hours.

You can even hire the boats yourself with or without a skipper and gift vouchers are available for all the courses and boat hire, a great birthday or Christmas present which can be used at your convenience.The school is easily reached from across whole of the South West and is only a 3 hour drive from London.
