LOOE
Looe is a picturesque Cornish fishing town, situated in the South West of England just 30 minutes from Plymouth. Seafaring has been a way of life here for centuries, ever since it was chartered as a town in thirteenth century and with history of smuggling and piracy to add to its fascinating history.

West Looe has many shops and restaurants to choose from considering its size and is a popular little town in the summer months with holiday makers sauntering down the main street buying Cornish ice cream and freshly made fudge.

Split in two by the River Looe you first enter West Looe when travelling from Plymouth which is certainly the busiest part of the town. Cross the seven arched Victorian stone bridge (1853) and you will enter East Looe where you will find the quiet but lovely stony Hannafore Beach, perfect for picnics or walking the dog.

If you feel a little more adventurous get your boots on and try a walk through the Kilminorth Woods which you will find north of West Looe. Known by some as 'a Little Known Gem',  others refer to it as 'the Lungs of Looe'

There you will find ancient forest land with diverse flora and fauna. An ancient monument, known as 'The Giants Hedge' stretches across the wooded hillside. It is thought to be the border of an important Cornish Kingdom from long ago.

Owned by Cornwall Council. Classified as ancient woodland, it is part of a County Wildlife Site in an Area of Special Landscape Value. The woods are also featured site in the BBC's Breathing Places Project.

Looe really is worth a visit if you are staying in Plymouth you will find the short drive well worth it.With its harbour, beach and narrow streets it all makes it a perfect day out for tourists and Plymothians alike.
