Within a pleasant 40 minute drive from Plymouth you can spend a day out in Dartmouth Devon. Situated on the picturesque River Dart it attracts many tourists and visitors from Plymouth enjoying a stroll down the embankment with steep green hills either side.
There are numerous Dartmouth boat trips to choose from as you walk down the riverside. The town itself has many interesting narrow streets and medieval buildings accommodating many Dartmouth restaurants and Dartmouth bistros. A good choice of hotels in Dartmouth and holidays homes are available as it depends largely on tourism for its survival.
Golfers can enjoy the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club in Devon which facilities include an 18 hole championship golf course, health spa and a gym so posh they all it James!
Dartmouth really is a place to visit whilst staying in Plymouth and you can extend your experience of the area by taking a trip on one of the Dartmouth Steam Railway locomotives  which works its way up the one and only line linking Dartmouth to the English Riviera.

Alternatively visit Dartmouth castle 600 years old that guards the estuary of the river Dart(see Dartmoor). The beautiful grounds make an ideal location to watch the river or to share a picnic or even eat your pasty you bought in Plymouth. Just mind you don’t drop the crumbs on the grass.


Dartmouth is a town to relax in and take it easy, unless you’re there because you are in the Royal Navy. Dartmouth is home to the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC). Set high above the town of Dartmouth the BRNC is responsible for training the future officers of the Royal Navy. Their mission, “To deliver courageous leaders with the spirit to fight and win” and to boss future ratings that are being trained simultaneously at HMS Raleigh Torpoint near Plymouth.
