Bunjee Jumping

The very first bungee jumpers were the inhabitants of Pentecost Island, one of 83 islands that make up the country of Vanuatu, the Island that Captain Cook named in 1774.He navigated and plotted the islands of the South Pacific after leaving Plymouth harbour two years earlier. Had he realised that the ancient ritual called 'naghol' or land diving would catch on at home he probably would have stopped to try the daring activity himself and started the craze of bungee jumping in Plymouth.

101 places to go in Devon and Cornwall

In no time everybody could have been bungee jumping in Devon but alas we had to wait 200 years before members the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club made it what it is today. Their 'ground breaking' feat led to the arrest of the bungee jumpers who had dived off the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Today if you live in Plymouth and want to experience the thrill of bungee jumping then you will have to drive up the M5 to take part in this most interesting and yet nerve stretching activity.
