Boringdon Hall
This Elizabethan manor house, not far from Plymouth and close to the historic Cadover Bridge on Dartmoor, is an idyllic setting for your wedding day. The venue is licensed to perform traditional wedding services as well as civil ceremonies and there are a number of large function rooms in which to hold wedding receptions catering for up to 300 guests. To make your day even more memorable, why not make use of the heated marquee in the grounds of this unique 16th century mansion.

Burton Farmhouse
This 15th-century farmhouse situated in the South Hams is a charming venue for a more intimate wedding day. Nearby is Hope Cove, a pretty fishing village, and Salcombe and Kingsbridge are within easy reach. Once owned by The Earl of Devonshire, Burton Farmhouse is a working farm now run by the Rossiter family. The farmhouse itself has 13 ensuite bedrooms and there are 3 self-catering cottages a short walk away in Galmpton, so there is plenty of accommodation for wedding guests.

Licensed for wedding and civil ceremonies, Burton Farmhouse offers bespoke menus and ceremonies, and promises great attention to detail, to make your day unique. Food is locally-sourced and you can choose a formal 3-course sit-down dinner, a delicious finger buffet, or even a hog or ram roast during summer evenings.

There are three function rooms available: the cosy Piano Room, with piano and wood-burning stove, suitable for the most intimate of gatherings of up to a dozen guests; the Retreat Bar with real log fire and room for around 50 people; and the spacious Garden Room which can be extended into the heated marquee to cater for larger parties.
Fingals
If you’re looking for a traditional country wedding reception then you need look no further than Fingals, the 17th-century farmhouse in Dittisham near Dartmouth and overlooking the River Dart. This is a small family hotel run by Richard and Sheila Johnston with just 10 bedrooms but with lashings of luxury for that extra special occasion. The venue includes an enchanting folly; a croquet lawn; a spa with heated swimming pool, sauna and hot tub; a grass tennis court; a gym for the more energetic; a games room; an Orangery where you can take afternoon tea; and a well-tended garden with secluded areas for those who wish to spend some time in peace and tranquillity.
Fingals’ food is mostly organic and sourced from local suppliers. Breakfast is a relaxed affair starting at 9 am and with a variety of tasty options ranging from freshly-baked croissants and orange juice to a full English breakfast. The delicious evening meals created by the French chef are served at a single long table in the wood-panelled dining-room where you are encouraged to share an informal evening and lively conversation with other guests. For those who prefer a more intimate setting, there is a separate room with individual tables. Afterwards, you can collapse on the comfortable sofas in front of the cosy fireplace or wander in the picturesque gardens in the moonlight.

Although Fingals does not have a licence to hold wedding ceremonies on site, if you’d like to get married nearby you have the choice of the lovely Norman church of St George just down the road in Dittisham, or St Petrocs Church located at the mouth of the River Dart and accessible by boat for that extra special touch.
Haldon Belvedere
This unique triangular tower, built in 1788 and also known as Lawrence Castle after the Major-General who founded the Indian army, is a Grade II listed building standing atop Haldon Hill, near Exeter. It advertises itself as a magical fairytale castle surrounded by 5 acres of woodland and boasts magnificent panoramic views across Devon.

Haldon Belvedere is licensed to conduct services for civil weddings and partnerships and can provide a small champagne reception with canapés. Although Haldon Belvedere can’t provide a full wedding reception or overnight accommodation it can provide details of venues that can. If you’d like to add an even more impressive feature to this unusual venue, you can choose to roll up in a horse-drawn carriage, a vintage car, or for a truly spectacular entrance, a helicopter. For the more romantic, a piper can play from the battlements as your guests arrive.

You may wish to entertain your guests with some musicians and you will find the acoustics in this room ideally suited to such classic instruments as the harp, violin and flute. Afterwards, you can return to the ground floor Lawrence Room for a drinks reception or step outside for the photo shoot in the beautiful surroundings.
Holne Park House
Originally built as a large family home in the late 19th century, today Holne Park House is a stylish mansion having undergone a sympathetic renovation in 2006. Located near to Ashburton at the edge of Dartmoor, the house enjoys scenic views across the River Dart Country Park with fantastic photo opportunities for the bride and bridegroom. The overnight accommodation includes a sumptuous bridal suite as well as 9 ensuite bedrooms named after rivers in the area.
There are 5 reception rooms available and all are licensed for civil weddings. If you wish, you can book these for exclusive use by your family and friends for 24 or 48 hours, allowing you and your guests to relax fully. Alternatively, you may prefer to use the outside pavilion, also licensed, for a marquee which can cater for several hundred guests. The tea garden is an attractive site for a hog roast and it can be illuminated during the evening for a truly enchanting experience.

The venue is licensed to sell alcohol and provide music until 1 am. Kitley House Hotel
A Grade I listed building, Kitley House is believed to have been built in the early 1500s. Located beside the River Yealm in Yealmpton and only 10 minutes from Plymouth, the luxury country house is surrounded by 600 acres of mature pasture and woodland, providing an impressive backdrop for your wedding photos.

Kitley house has a license to hold ceremonies for civil weddings and partnerships, both indoors and outdoors. The whole venue, including the grounds, is available for exclusive use weddings, providing all 19 bedrooms are taken. For those with a larger guest list a marquee is available, or you may wish to make use of the newly-constructed wedding gazebo for a unique and picturesque setting. Fireworks are permitted but must be restricted to one session during a weekend. Musical entertainment is allowed until midnight and the bar is licensed until 2 am.

The team includes the wedding coordinator, who will provide advice on all aspects of the day itself and the award-winning chef, who will prepare your food to perfection. New Continental
This magnificent hotel in the centre of Plymouth, next to Plymouth Pavilions, is licensed to hold wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships, can cater for your wedding reception, and can accommodate your guests – what more could you want? Well, the New Continental is lacking in an outdoor area for wedding photos but Plymouth Hoe is a few minutes’ drive away and that is one of the most impressive backdrops in the region.

The ceremony itself can be held in the small and intimate Green Room for up to 70 guests, the larger Athena Room which can cater for 100, or the Executive Suite which can accommodate 120. The Athena Room and Executive Suite can also be used for your reception, or you could opt for the Ballroom which has room for as many as 250 guests. Both the bridal suites offered by the New Continental include a luxurious four-poster bed, and the deluxe suite indulges you further with a whirlpool bath and chaise longue. Northcote Manor
Built in 1716, Northcote Manor is just outside the village of Burrington near Umberleigh in North Devon. The venue can be booked for exclusive use for a single day or for longer periods at any time during the week or at the weekend.

Your wedding ceremony can be held in a choice of locations. The Oak Room, named after the old oak tree it overlooks, is a lovely setting for the smaller wedding. Pentillie Castle
Another venue available for exclusive use is Pentillie Castle at St Mellion, overlooking the River Tamar. The venue offers some amazing extra activities should you stay the whole weekend, such as clay pigeon shooting, croquet, falconry, boat trips, or a special afternoon cream tea in the bathing hut on the water’s edge.

Pentillie Castle boasts four separate locations where you can hold your ceremony, whether it is a wedding or a civil partnership: the morning room is the smallest, suitable for up to 20 guests; the dining room seats 64 but can be extended through use of a marquee; the loggia can cater for up to 200 for those with a larger guest list; and the bathing hut can accommodate up to 60 if you prefer a more outdoor feel. You and your guests can be accommodated in the 9 luxury ensuite double bedrooms with stunning views. Depending on the number of guests, you can hold your wedding or civil partnership ceremony in the Grand Napoleonic Hall, which seats 120, or in the Emperor’s Room for a more intimate party of around 30. The Garden House is also licensed for wedding services. Alternatively, you can get married in one of the lovely local churches and use the Fort for your perfect reception.

Whichever you choose, Polhawn Fort and its grounds will be exclusively yours and you will have complete freedom to decide how to use it. The expansive gardens can be used to erect a marquee should you require additional space for the wedding reception or to enjoy some fun and games. You can bring along your own caterers or use those recommended by the Fort. You can provide your own champagne and wine, with no corkage charge, or you can use the Fort’s bar, or both. Sandy Park
Sandy Park is primarily known as a conference and banqueting centre but is also licensed for civil ceremonies. A contemporary building close to Exeter, it is easy to get to for couples from Plymouth as it is very close to the M5 but still enjoys superb views across the Devon countryside.

The centre has a variety of suites which can cater for parties from 60 to 475 guests which is ample for most weddings. After your ceremony, you can enjoy the best of West Country cooking for your reception and, if you are still feeling energetic, you will have plenty of space for dancing afterwards.

St Elizabeth House
For an historical English setting you would struggle to improve upon the opulence of this Georgian manor located in Plympton St Maurice. St Elizabeth House has 5 acres of fabulous grounds where you may like to have pre-wedding drinks and where you will almost certainly choose to take post-wedding photos.

Your guests can stay in any one of the 15 well-appointed bedrooms, each with its own unique design but all equally luxurious. For the bridal suite, you may prefer the St Elizabeth’s suite with its separate lounge, whirlpool bath, and private terrace. European oak furniture can be found throughout and all rooms have a 42-inch screen TV and all the usual facilities you would expect of a modern and stylish hotel.

Plush leather armchairs await you in the bar area if you wish to relax before the wedding reception. St Mellion International Resort
In contrast to many other traditional venues in the West Country, this is a modern and stylish venue only 20 minutes from Plymouth, just on the Cornish side of the Tamar. Close to the 15th-century church located in the hamlet of the same name, St Mellion International Resort has its own golf course as well as mature woodlands which create a beautiful background for our wedding photos.

The venue offers two larger suites with their own reception areas, St Piran and St Mellion, and eight more intimate suites for smaller wedding parties. It also boasts 4-star accommodation and, if block-booking at least 9 other rooms, the bride and groom can stay for free.
